I hate this. I still remember I asked one of the English teachers whether I can do "The Return" by K S Maniam instead despite this novel was compulsory at my state. This novel is a tragedy novel where there's no happy ending. I cringed when I read how the main character and his wife suffered just because they have the pearl. Oh well I guess it's still better than the new English novel syllabus that those kids have to read now.
